Meta discussion
Last year at WisCon I attended a panel on Disabling Metaphors in which we all talked about the disability-related metaphors and slurs and such that we were aware of and didn't like and what kinds of words and phrases we could use instead.

There are two others that are both manga and anime, that do include women, but those either have updates that are few and far between, and the manga reviews on them are even fewer and farther between. It was when I was listening to one of the male-centric podcasts that I realized just HOW male-centric it was.

I have more of a follow up post to my last entry about why I don't like those certain characters and how there are a lot of reasons besides just the tropes, reasons that are rooted in the fact that there so much about them I find bland and not original and irritating about those characters because it's the same thin/white/cis/het/able "too pretty to be a cop" type woman I've seen so many times I'm sick of it.

What floors me is individuals who decide it's perfectly alright to not only insult me but make broad-sweeping judgements on an entire fandom completely unprovoked.

Who added the stupidity agent to the PC fanfic community's water supply? Because I'm pretty sure it didn't get this stupid before I switched to ninjaing it.

Often when bloggers or activists push back against ableist language and stereotypes in the media, especially pop culture, someone will respond with an argument that there are more important disability issues to address and that the topic at hand is mostly irrelevant to disability rights as a whole.

I just finished rereading Robert A. Heinlein’s STARSHIP TROOPERS, and I was left with an odd question lingering. Blazoned on the cover of my paperback edition boast the words “controversial best seller!” Why is this book controversial?

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer:
This is not well-constructed meta or even particularly insightful ramblings. It's just thoughts. And they're not overly thinking. Some of the phrasing/ideas may have actually been stolen from other people unknowingly (tell me! I'll credit!). Mostly, it's just me being self-indulgent.
