I guess he didn't really want Sammy and me around hunters." - which, when he thinks about it is weird, because their whole damn lives have been about preparing for The Hunt, so wouldn't it make sense to meet other people, pool knowledge, that sort of thing? - "Or, y'know, people in general." He shrugs, scratches at his jawline thoughtfully. "What happened to Mom it..." - and he stops himself; talking about that is a whole different ballpark, one way out of their league when they're just casual acquaintances and this is meant to be a light-hearted meal and not a deep ponderous whinefest. "Y'know. Whatever. We just kinda kept ourselves." He shrugs again. Dad doesn't need to be analysed, or defended, not by him. "Can't say I blame him, not if there's more like that son-of-a-bitch Walker floating around."
And he's back to following her instructions, and having something to concentrate on helps.
