Dean’s doing that Dad thing, where he makes sure he’s not forgetting stuff. It sort of confuses Sam, because shouldn’t he know if he’s forgetting something, without having to check? Sam just wants to go.
>“Yeah, ready.” - Sam bounces once, before he can stop himself, and in that time Dean’s slipped between him and the door, as if he thinks Sam’s going to tear through it like a racehorse set on getting started running, which, okay, maybe he was thinking about it, but he’s not tall enough to reach the chain higher up on the door, so obviously he wasn’t really going to - “So when Dad asks what we did for New Year...”
Sam rolls his eyes a little bit, fixing his brother with a seriously? I’m not stupid look, which he hopes doesn’t make Dean mad ‘cause if he gets mad he’ll change his mind and he really, really doesn’t want him to do that. “If he asks - which he won’t, he never asks stuff anymore - if he does I’ll just say we stayed here and did nothing. It was very boring. Okay?” It’s a little on the frustrated side, a good enough? that feels out of place given that he’s still excited and happy and eager to get going.
