Dean doesn't even look up at him, and Sam shifts a little on the couch and frowns. He doesn't like when Dean deliberately doesn't look at him when he's talking to him, because it feels like his brother is ignoring him even when he isn't. Like he's trying to ignore him.
>“Dad said we have to stay here 'til he gets back. 'sides” - Dean looks back at the clock again, and Sam sighs heavily, rolls his eyes - “it's, like, almost nine thirty”
"But... it's New Years, Dean!" he protests, as if the importance of they say should be totally and completely obvious, "And Dad won't mind if we're out just to watch the fireworks, really!" And he wouldn't - Sam's sure of it.
Maybe if Dad were here he'd watch, too, but he can't watch because he's out fighting monsters instead of selling things, fighting monsters so that other people can watch the fireworks with their kids without having to worry about monsters coming for them.
"Pleeeease?" He's practically pouting, nudges himself against his brother's shoulder again, leaning against him and giving Dean a pleading look.
