Genma's mind spun frantically as sense filtered in. His fingers around Kakashi's neck tightened a fraction, then loosened. He let his hand fall away from its threatening position, but didn't let go, catching hold of the strap of Kakashi's vest again. It all made a sort of bastard sense, even if it was the most godawful stupid plan anyone could possibly have devised.
Kakashi wasn't a traitor, wasn't going to kill Genma, or turn him over to be killed. At least not alone. No, he was going to get them both killed, and for no good reason at all. The fact that Kakashi had used Genma's name was proof, Genma thought, that the other jounin had lost his mind.
"Are you insane?" he demanded. ""That's sui--cide."
"Do you have a better option?" Kakashi asked, sounding completely honest. Sounding backed against the wall. Sounding young. "Because I'd love to hear it." His grey eye scanned back and forth across Genma's face, as if he was going to see the answer there somehow.
"You send your dog for-- medics. We-- meet them halfway. Go to a safe--house." Genma had to stop for air. Breathing too shallowly, Kakashi had said before. Chakra coils in his fucking brainstem were damaged.
He grimaced. "At least one of us would-- make it home safe. Iwa will-- kill us both. You're more im--portant to Konoha than--" |
