[Takes place March 25th, two days after Laugh Like You Really Mean It and Make Me Better]

Kuromaru shook the thoroughly-dead hamster, feeling its spine snap again, and trotted out of the Forest of Death. Forest of Death hamsters weren't easy prey. Not only did they have the agility of a rodent, but they had oversized teeth, too. And anything that weighed forty pounds and had nasty claws and paw-length incisors was something to be reckoned with. Not that Kuromaru had been worried--not even for a moment.

Okay, maybe one moment when it had gone for his balls, but anyone would be worried under those circumstances.

He made a running leap over the chain link fence, dragging his burden with him. Only safely on the other side did he pause to set down his kill, take a few quick licks at a nasty scratch, decide it wasn't too bad--the rodent had given him a good chomp on his blind side, but he'd mostly dodged--then pick up his prey and trotted on.

People moved aside when they saw him coming. He had to pick his head way up to keep the kill from dragging too badly, and it kept tangling in his legs.

Mmm. Forty pounds of hamster.

He dragged it behind ANBU HQ to feast, tearing into the stomach for all the good half-digested grain before moving onto the organs. He ate almost half of it, crunching through bones and lapping up blood, before he'd gorged himself. For a long moment he lay in the sun, one paw on the animal's shoulders, panting happily.

A ninja came around the corner, froze at the sight of him, and backed slowly away. Kuromaru wagged. There were a lot of rookies he didn't know, though he knew the smell of them. His pack was growing at a rate that made him happy. He glanced down at his hamster, memory tickling the edge of his mind.

There was that one rookie--Asuma. He was allergic to chicken and steak, poor man. Maybe he could eat hamster. Kuromaru stood, picking up the dessicated corpse and dragging it toward the front doors.

"Ah--Inuzuka-san--" the desk chuunin said, looking alarmed.

Kuromaru growled, eyeing her suspiciously. If she tried to take his kill...

The chuunin stepped back, though. Kuromaru stopped growling, but didn't stop eyeing.

"If you could refrain from getting blood on the floor...?"

Kuromaru twisted his head. There was a streak behind him, though the creature had mostly bled out on the grass. "Shinobi get more blood than that on the floor all the time," he said airily around his kill. From the look on the chuunin's face, she either hadn't understood him or didn't agree. He didn't care, just trotted into the elevator and nosed the button to go up.

Why lug his prey when he didn't have to?

When the doors opened, he dragged his hamster down the hall, tail wagging with cheer, feet stepping awkwardly around the body. He dropped it in front of Asuma's door, then sniffed at the handle.

Scent was old. Kuromaru wilted. How was he supposed to help the new ninja find possible meat if the new ninja wasn't here? He looked up the hall, then down the hall, as if a solution might present itself. The shower was on! Maybe he was in the shower.

With great effort--the hamster was seeming heavier with every passing minute--Kuromaru picked his kill up and dragged it toward the showers. Steam dampened all the scents, but even walking up he could tell there was no Asuma. He dropped his kill on the tile anyway and ducked around, smelling something better. Old sex and Ryouma!

Just as he started to track it, one of the private cubicle doors opened and a silver-haired man stepped out, bringing with him that waft of scent. Kuromaru sat down on his butt and eyed Kakashi. "Well. That's unexpected," he grumbled at last.
