Kotetsu's shift jarred Hayate out of his thoughts, and he shook his head. His train of thought was entirely gone, and he couldn't recall it for the life of him. He tilted his head a little, and was startled to find how very close Kotetsu really was. Sitting, Hayate was just that much shorter, and for an uneasy moment instinct hissed about being trapped and caught.
It's just Kotetsu, he thought, in response to that, soothing the twinge of fear. Though he still wasn't sure they were quite friends, wasn't certain how it would all end...well, he'd known Kotetsu in the Academy. And though he'd been the victim of Kotetsu's pranks more than once, he didn't resent the older teenager. Much. Kotetsu's pranks had often been humiliating and daring, but they'd never hurt anyone, not like some of the other older student's ideas of fun.
So he looked back down at the nest of hands, and realized what he was doing. He paused,and blinked, folding his thumb back down against his own fingers. There was a tiny sigh and a minute relaxation from Kotetsu--if they hadn't been so close, Hayate wouldn't have picked up on it. He bit his lip, realizing a little too late how that could have been interpreted, especially with that stupid crush of Kotetsu's....
Curses and curses. The day was not....
A change in sound caught his attention.
"Hey, I think the rain's letting up," he announced, softly, lifting his head to look out. The steady downpour did seem to be slackening at last. |
