Genius is Subjective, Jackassery Universal [closed to Kakashi and Ginta][Jan. 31st, 2008|06:25 pm]

Ginta and Kakashi made their way to the target's room passing unseen through the quiet halls of the little inn. They were no more than swiftly moving shadows in the dimly lit halls, unmarked by any they passed. Once in the room Ginta looked around, pleased with himself. Their timing was perfect, the man wasn't back yet. The room was on the small side, but the furnishings were traditional, and the maids had already rolled up the night's bedding, so there were only the target's personal effects, a low tea-table, and a pair of floor chairs cluttering the room. Ginta couldn't help the wince when he trod upon the tatami in his shoes. No matter how many missions he took that forced him to do so, he couldn't quite get past the manners of his upbringing.

He marked where Kakashi hid, balanced on a beam that crossed the room's high ceiling. Old-style architecture, as if this had once been a barn long before it became a lodging house. There weren't too many places to hide, nor too many escape routes, but Ginta was thorough in casting his concealing jutsu, rendering the room subtly but radically different, at least in appearance. With another surge of chakra he produced a pair of hooded and masked clones, disguising himself similarly. No need to let they quarry know it was Konoha ANBU after him after all. He was ready when the door creaked open and the big Kumo ninja came in. The other ninja reacted as Ginta had predicted, with alarm and defensiveness.

"You didn't really think you could stay on the run forever, did you?" one of Ginta's clones asked.

"Who are you?" the big man returned. His hand flashed to his side, then out, as a rain of senbon pierced the wall where Ginta hand been standing.

"My, such manners. This is how you welcome a guest?" Ginta was suddenly at the man's side, kodachi in hand, but his strike was parried. Then the fight got serious.

It took several rounds for the ninja to size each other up. For the target to realize that Ginta, for all he looked small and harmless, was in fact a formidable opponent. Ginta sent a crackling electric attack at the target just as one of his own clones was destroyed, and smelled the burning protein where his jutsu connected with the target's skin.

"You're ANBU," the big man accused, and Ginta smiled.

"Good guess. Too bad you guessed too late." He aimed another bolt at the man's head, trying to draw him into position where Kakashi could see him best.

"You picked the wrong fight, ANBU," the man said, and then there was the sequence they'd been told to look for--Tiger, Monkey, Snake, Monkey... Ginta had a half second to hope that Kakashi was really getting this. He was panting now, sweating and tired. He brought up his own hands in the start of a jutsu to shield himself, and then the world went white and soundless, and he was flying backwards across the room and into the wall.
