Barking Up the Wrong Tree [closed to Ginta & Kuromaru][Aug. 7th, 2008|02:27 pm]

Takes place at the end of January, the same night as Sacred Spaces

Ginta has enjoying a little midnight snack of canned peaches on toaster waffles. Actually perhaps, given the hour, it was more of a pre-dawn breakfast. But since he hadn't slept yet, it really wasn't breakfast. Breakfast was the meal you ate when you got up after you'd been asleep. This was more of a very-delayed midnight snack. Or a midnight snack several hundred kilometers to the west, somewhere in outer Wind Country, where the sun was farther from rising and it really was closer to midnight. Or something like that. Actually Ginta didn't care much about the definitions. He cared about his peach waffles, dripping with syrup and topped with a glob of whipped cream.

He was up so late because he'd come home late, turned in a mission report late, gotten debriefed late, gotten a shower and bath late, and finally when he was clean and pink, wrapped in a lively gold yukata, with his weapons and gear cleaned and polished, waiting for his next mission, his stomach had declared itself hungry. Ginta was never one to deny his stomach peaches and waffles, especially when there was whipped-cream-in-a-can on hand to garnish it with, so at 0245 he popped frozen waffles into his toaster, opened the can of peaches in heavy syrup, and set about making himself his rather-long-after-midnight snack.

He was very, very surprised to hear the sound of a dog scratching at his door. Kuromaru living next door some of the time he'd become somewhat accustomed to, but usually it was the scent of bacon that brought the Inuzuka familiar over. It could be Hoshika, though, he thought. Or Pakkun. Although if one of Kakashi's dogs was looking for him at this hour then either Kakashi had done something monumentally stupid, or the dog had, and had gotten him or herself thrown out for the night.

Oh well. Ginta was in a good mood. He'd even share his peaches.
