A video from the Daily Show writers

A video from the Colbert Report writers

The AMPTP and WGA have agreed to return to talks after the weekend! Keep an eye on DHD for the latest.

See also: United Hollywood and fans4writers.

I now contribute links to thedailyreports, so expect me to post here less - and check that LJ community for much more news and stuff. (John Oliver in particular has been crazy vocal over the past few weeks.) Maybe we can has IJ feed of TDR if there's interest?

Anyway, that's about it. Cross your fingers that the talks go well next week. Have a good Thanksgiving weekend!

The strike is still on, obviously.

First, watch this video.

Instead of linking to every single article, here are the blogs and other news sources you should follow if you're interested:
- Deadline Hollywood Daily
- LA Time Strike Blog
- Variety Strike Blog
- United Hollywood Strike Blog
- WGA's YouTube channel
- NoFactZone
- wga_supporters @ LJ

To help out:
- fans4writers.com - currently endorsed by most of the TDS/TCR online communities, and I'm gonna go out on a limb here and add "including this one"
- addresses and phone numbers of the networks: one, two, three (Remember, TDS and TCR are owned by Viacom)

- Also: don't watch the reruns that are being shown in Jon and Stephen's timeslots, and don't watch streaming video at thedailyshow.com. I know. It hurts.

Else:
- an op-ed by Steve Bodow, TDS writer
- Video by Rob Kutner, another TDS writer
- Comedy Central's plan for the timeslots (I know it sounds cool - but please, don't watch. I or another fan can hook you up with non-revenue-generating clips if you wantneed some; just ask.)
- Ed Helms, Eric Drysdale (Bobby), and Steve Carell

And now for something completely of the shiny:
- Stephen Colbert at the Glamour Awards! Video and pictures!

[Current Mood | cynical]

There are no new shows today - the strike is on. But that doesn't mean there isn't news! (mostly x-posted from my journal)

I'm following this blog and this blog (and of course NFZ). Highlights include:

- TDS and TCR did not tape today, nor Leno, nor Ellen
- Steve Carell didn't show up to tape The Office, so that show may be lagging, writers or no
- Barack Obama supports the writers
- There's a probably false rumor going around that Jon will pay writers and staff of both shows to strike
- Jon and Stephen MIGHT be back in some limited way if the strike lasts more than a few weeks
- showrunner Shawn Ryan explains why he's striking (this is very eloquent; read it)
- John Oliver and Eric Drysdale on the picket lines in NYC
- NFZ solicits ideas for how we the Colbert Nation can help - with one particularly interesting comment ...

Also: Stephen called in to a radio show this morning (The-Brown-Haired-Guy-Who's-Not-Steve-Doocey and the Judge), and it's being quoted EVERYWHERE! (He should sue, it'd give him something to do during the strike....)

And Jon Stewart will be on the Biography channel this week. I don't get that channel! WOE! (He's also got an interview in the Nov. 15 issue of Rolling Stone.)

The writer's strike is on, and .... well, spoiler. Combine those two? These next couple months could be a LOT less fun than I'd hoped. SIGH.

... I think I won't speculate about what might be on the shows tonight. *grabs wine, prepares to drown Stephen's sorrows*

DISCUSS, PLEASE.

Oh, and tonight's guests: Jerry Seinfeld and Walter Kirn.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The writer's strike MIGHT hold off for a few days! That would be nice!

Check out Jon's new Sesame Street segment before YouTube deletes it. D: (Did I link to Anderson Cooper's?)

Looks like Stephen might end up running only as a Democrat...

Here's some more video of Candidate Colbert making his pitch to the SC Dems!

David Gregory video on the Colbert/Edwards feud!

Valerie Plame was great last night, no? Today: William F. Buckley Jr. on TDS, and Colonel Lawrence Wilkersen (Colin Powell's Former Chief of Staff) on TCR. Here's hoping for Halloween hijinks! (... and maybe something about the writer's strike, too.)

Jon has renewed his contract through 2010! YES. It just wouldn't be the same without him ... and he wouldn't be the same on a network.

thedailyshow.com IS LIVE. AND AWESOME.

Craig Newmark liveblogged from the TCR green room!

Donate here to support Stephen's candidacy. (This is the same website that Livejournal supported a few weeks ago. If you didn't give then, on the principle of disdaining LJ, this seems to be a much better excuse! FOR STEPHEN, Y'ALL.)

Join 1,000,000 Strong for Stephen T Colbert on Facebook!

And hey, Brian Williams (and his Giant Head) was at the same Springsteen concert as Jon! Gentlemen .. start your .. fanfiction???? ;D

Also, set your TiVos and VCRs for Meet The Press this Sunday!

Finally, thedailyshow.com is expected to be LIVE in ONE HOUR - with COMPLETE video archives all the way back to 1999!

Wow, is it a great time to love fake news, or what? :D

So, tonight we've got Ben Affleck, Craig Newmark, and, uh, apparently ANDERSON COOPER .. so, "gentlemen: start your fanfiction!" (An imperative that the folks on LJ have well in hand!)

(I love this fandom so much. ♥!)

If you missed Stephen's interview on Larry King last week - it was INCREDIBLE - you can catch it again tonight. It looks like the show will air at 9 PM ET on CNN, and then twice more in the wee hours of Monday. It doesn't seem to be up in its entirety on the internet (yet), and I'm not sure how complete the podcast will be, so do try to catch it tonight - you won't regret it, it was by far the best interview I've ever seen Stephen give.

There's also a link to a short clip here (NFZ), along with clips of the TWO tosses between Stephen and Anderson Cooper!

If you missed Stephen on Letterman, that clip is here (also NFZ!)

Stephen guest-writes Maureen Dowd's column in the NYT

Finally, my entry for the videobook.

That's about it - I mostly wanted to get in that plug for Larry King.

... who's finished reading I Am America (And So Can You!)? Any thoughts?

So, I Am America (And So Can You!) has been out all weekend on audible.com and iTunes! The official release to bookstores everywhere is midnight tonight! Unfortunately, I haven't heard of any midnight release parties in my area (so sad), but I'll be making a beeline to Borders as soon as I get off work tomorrow!

In the meantime, audible.com has two more preview clips: Introduction and Hollywood Liberals

(omg, i can't wait.)

NoFactZone is all over the early reviews of I Am America (And So Can You!) Go check 'em out. (And hey, they hat-tipped me for this little nugget! *is special!*)

Here are a few of the awesomest links (mostly gleaned from NFZ, but hey):

Interview with another contributor to The Daily Show and Philosophy: Part 1, Part 2

One of my favorite multitalented cartoonist/blogger/musicians posts about the Matthews interview!

Stephen will be on:

- Fresh Air, tomorrow, 10/9, [times probably depend on your local station], NPR (I'm really looking forward to this one - the podcast should be up not long after it airs)

- Good Morning America tomorrow, October 9, 7 AM EDT, ABC

- The Colbert Report, 10/9, 11:30 PM EDT, Comedy Central

- The Late Show with David Lettermen Wednesday, 10/10, 11:30 PM EDT, CBS

- Larry King Live, 10/11, 9 PM EDT, CNN

Oh, and last but definitely not least: MY BLOODY AWESOME BIRTHDAY CAKE.

Anyway, so, on TDS tonight: Vincente Fox, former president of Mexico - and on TCR, short story writer and essayist George Saunders. Comment if you got 'em!

NFZ has an interview with the editor of The Daily Show and Philosophy: Part 1 and Part 2

NFZ has the dirt, as always, on I Am America (And So Can You!): an awesome article, a preview, and an audiobook preview. Stephen's also go at least four guest appearances next week.

Seriously, everyone, read that blog.

Also, Stephen's 60 Minutes interview is featured on Yahoo! video. (lots and lots of flash, beware!) If you haven't seen it before, definitely take a look!

By the way, how much did the Daily Show rock last night? SO MUCH. I KNOW.

Tonight: Colbert has Jim Lovell on (awesome!), and TDS continues its run of TV newsmen and "newsmen" with Ted Koppel (perhaps also his giant head???) I hope Jon references last night - and his tribute to Koppel last weekend!

VIDEO and transcript of Jon's salute to Ted Koppel at the News and Documentary Emmys!

The Ambiguously Gay Duo rode again on SNL this week (voiced by Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell, of course) - part 1 is near the end of this clip and part 2 starts here.

Stephen will be on Letterman 10/10 - which is awesome, but will we have to choose between watching Stephen and watching Stephen?? (Not on 10/9, anyway! XD )

If you've never seen Stephen Colbert predict the future during Indecision 2000, you really must watch this clip - before YouTube takes it down.

But what's this? Viacom loves fanvids? .... I'll believe it when I see it, folks.

Annnnyway, tonight we've got Jack Cafferty from CNN's Situation Room on TDS, and Charlie Savage, a Pulitzer Prize-winning political journalist, on TCR. Comment here!

Tonight on the Daily Show, Jon Stewart interviews Evo Morales. In Spanish. Through an interpreter.

That should be exciting.

Jon also seems to have secretly hosted the news and documentary Emmys yesterday. I'd love to see that. It hasn't been televised (yet), but it seems C-Span will be showing it sooner or later.

You've got to watch this new video (embedded at NFZ) by the winner of Stephen's greenscreen challenge!

Annnnd, tonight on the Colbert Report: John Grisham, promoting .. his new football novel? All right then!

[Current Mood |productive]

Happy September, fake news fans! We seem to be in the middle of a two-week hiatus ... anyone else going into withdrawal symptoms, or is it just me?

.. it's just me, isn't it. XD

In case you *are* in need of a fix, I've just posted a TDS/TCR fanmix to [info]mixed_music. (The comm is flocked, but if you enjoy fanmixes, I encourage you to join!) You can also download the mix, unlocked, here at my LJ.

Some links:
  • Less than two days to bid on Stephen's cast!
  • Download three clips from "I Am America (And So Can You)" the Audiobook! (SO. PSYCHED.)
  • Dan Bakkedahl has a MySpace. And a new baby! Who knew? (There's a cute pic of Dan & Jon in his photo album.)

    An observation:
The CC Insider notes that HBO will not be holding its Aspen Comedy Festival next year. I guess they know when they've peaked. XD

Anyway, enjoy the mix, enjoy the links, and those of you celebrating Labor Day, enjoy your long weekend! and post to the comm! *poke*
