Where in the World is Stephen Colbert's Book Tour? |
[Oct. 20th, 2007|02:13 am] |
Just a quick note - I have a recap of Stephen Colbert's appearance at GWU tonight!
Also note, Stephen will be Wait, Wait .. Don't Tell Me (check your local NPR listings) and Meet the Press this weekend.
Stephen's also got an upcoming appearance at Cornell, so if you're up there, definitely check it out. (I would hazard a guess it might be a lot like the one I attended tonight?) |

COLBERT FOR PRESIDENT 2008! |
[Oct. 18th, 2007|11:10 am] |
Well -- HE'S REALLY DOING IT!
If you need something to waste time on today, NoFactZone has two posts chock-full of links to articles about Colbert For President: here and here. And there is much more at their main page!
Also, set your TiVos and VCRs for Meet The Press this Sunday!
Finally, thedailyshow.com is expected to be LIVE in ONE HOUR - with COMPLETE video archives all the way back to 1999!
Wow, is it a great time to love fake news, or what? :D
So, tonight we've got Ben Affleck, Craig Newmark, and, uh, apparently ANDERSON COOPER .. so, "gentlemen: start your fanfiction!" (An imperative that the folks on LJ have well in hand!)
(I love this fandom so much. ♥!) |

All Colbert, all the time! |
[Oct. 14th, 2007|01:31 pm] |
If you missed Stephen's interview on Larry King last week - it was INCREDIBLE - you can catch it again tonight. It looks like the show will air at 9 PM ET on CNN, and then twice more in the wee hours of Monday. It doesn't seem to be up in its entirety on the internet (yet), and I'm not sure how complete the podcast will be, so do try to catch it tonight - you won't regret it, it was by far the best interview I've ever seen Stephen give.
There's also a link to a short clip here (NFZ), along with clips of the TWO tosses between Stephen and Anderson Cooper!
If you missed Stephen on Letterman, that clip is here (also NFZ!)
Stephen guest-writes Maureen Dowd's column in the NYT
Finally, my entry for the videobook.
That's about it - I mostly wanted to get in that plug for Larry King.
... who's finished reading I Am America (And So Can You!)? Any thoughts? |

[Oct. 8th, 2007|10:07 pm] |
So, I Am America (And So Can You!) has been out all weekend on audible.com and iTunes! The official release to bookstores everywhere is midnight tonight! Unfortunately, I haven't heard of any midnight release parties in my area (so sad), but I'll be making a beeline to Borders as soon as I get off work tomorrow!
In the meantime, audible.com has two more preview clips: Introduction and Hollywood Liberals
(omg, i can't wait.)
NoFactZone is all over the early reviews of I Am America (And So Can You!) Go check 'em out. (And hey, they hat-tipped me for this little nugget! *is special!*)
Here are a few of the awesomest links (mostly gleaned from NFZ, but hey):
Interview with another contributor to The Daily Show and Philosophy: Part 1, Part 2
One of my favorite multitalented cartoonist/blogger/musicians posts about the Matthews interview!
Stephen will be on:
- Fresh Air, tomorrow, 10/9, [times probably depend on your local station], NPR (I'm really looking forward to this one - the podcast should be up not long after it airs)

- The Late Show with David Lettermen Wednesday, 10/10, 11:30 PM EDT, CBS

Oh, and last but definitely not least: MY BLOODY AWESOME BIRTHDAY CAKE.
Anyway, so, on TDS tonight: Vincente Fox, former president of Mexico - and on TCR, short story writer and essayist George Saunders. Comment if you got 'em! |

FOR STEPHEN!)
There is also another audio preview!
NFZ has an interview with the editor of The Daily Show and Philosophy: Part 1 and Part 2

interview from HELL! |
[Oct. 3rd, 2007|10:10 pm] |
NFZ has the dirt, as always, on I Am America (And So Can You!): an awesome article, a preview, and an audiobook preview. Stephen's also go at least four guest appearances next week.
Seriously, everyone, read that blog.
Also, Stephen's 60 Minutes interview is featured on Yahoo! video. (lots and lots of flash, beware!) If you haven't seen it before, definitely take a look!
By the way, how much did the Daily Show rock last night? SO MUCH. I KNOW.
Tonight: Colbert has Jim Lovell on (awesome!), and TDS continues its run of TV newsmen and "newsmen" with Ted Koppel (perhaps also his giant head???) I hope Jon references last night - and his tribute to Koppel last weekend! |

"I want to let everyone know that tonight is *black tie*." |
[Oct. 1st, 2007|10:33 pm] |
VIDEO and transcript of Jon's salute to Ted Koppel at the News and Documentary Emmys!
The Ambiguously Gay Duo rode again on SNL this week (voiced by Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell, of course) - part 1 is near the end of this clip and part 2 starts here.
Stephen will be on Letterman 10/10 - which is awesome, but will we have to choose between watching Stephen and watching Stephen?? (Not on 10/9, anyway! XD )
If you've never seen Stephen Colbert predict the future during Indecision 2000, you really must watch this clip - before YouTube takes it down.
But what's this? Viacom loves fanvids? .... I'll believe it when I see it, folks.
Annnnyway, tonight we've got Jack Cafferty from CNN's Situation Room on TDS, and Charlie Savage, a Pulitzer Prize-winning political journalist, on TCR. Comment here! |

Who's got the last laugh now? |
[Sep. 28th, 2007|05:15 pm] |
Sorry for the lack of news and comments last night - I barely got back from class in time to watch the shows, much less post about them. They were awesome though, yes? (Childrens do learn! Wake up with an obelisk! XD )
Let me make it up to you:
EDIT: dammit, IJ, I thought you allowed embedding. LINK TO VIDEO OF WEDNESDAY'S DUET
*swoons*
Also, here is a Stephen article.
If you missed the Vanity Fair article, it's now entirely available online.
Oh, and let me just brag a little here: I'm going to see Stephen at GWU on 10/19! SO EXCITED.
And if you've got belated comments about last night's shows? Put 'em here. (If I haven't posted by 10:55, especially on Thursdays, please feel free to start without me!) |

It's been a slow fake news day. Comments go here!
(Does anyone else think this is actually a really good debate, just wrapping up on MSNBC?) |

Colbert bump! |
[Sep. 24th, 2007|09:11 pm] |
Ok, more news posts it is! (Please vote if you haven't yet!)
Check out this Associated Press analysis of the Colbert Bump (flash video)! (Hat tip NFZ.)
If you went to an IAA(ASCY) release party dressed as your favorite Stephen, which would you pick? I'm leaning toward baseball!Stephen. Or Tek Jansen. :D
---------
TONIGHT:
On TDS: John Bowe, author of "Nobodies" (I've never heard of him. What a nobody! (hahahaha.)) On TCR: Tom Friedman, author "The World Is Flat" (Never heard of him, either, but it does look interesting.)
It's a bit early, I know, but let this be your comment post if you so desire! |

A POLL. |
[Sep. 23rd, 2007|06:00 pm] |
I haven't kept up with the news posting or nightly comment threads lately - I've been feeling like this community is a little redundant. I might be biased, though, because I still spend a lot of time on LJ fan communities and other fansites, where everything is covered already, to the nth degree. d-: So I'd like to get an idea where the rest of you fall .. please take this poll!
Poll #414
Open to: All, results viewable to: AllWhere do you get your TDS/TCR fix? So, should I ....
If you have any other comments about this community, please leave them here!
(Also, Stephen Colbert is guest-starring on the Simpsons tonight at 8 ET, so you might want to watch that.
If you haven't seen it already, check out this weekend's Parade magazine.
Also check out the uncut Bill Clinton interview.
Congratulations to Jon and the TDS staff for their Emmy - seriously, though, Stephen was robbed. But what a glorious Man Sandwich to cap off the night!) |

Off weeks. |
[Sep. 4th, 2007|11:26 pm] |
Serendipity is:
Turning on Comedy Central, because you're Daily Show deprived and the TV guide said that there would be Demetri Martin, and getting LEWIS &*%#$ing BLACK instead!
Oh, Lewis. There's very few people I can sit through an hour of stand-up from, and Lewis Black is one of them. I have a thing for curmudgeons, what can I say. It's like sitting at the kitchen table listening to my grandfather or one of my uncles rant, with homemade pie and cool milk in a Coca-cola glass. Except how Lewis Black is a lot closer to my politics. And repeats himself a lot less. And, oh, yeah, there's the cussing.
If we get Jon for President and Stephen for VP, we definitely need Lewis Black for Secretary of State. He would be *awesome* at that job. And at the UN :D
When I try to explain the Daily Show to people who don't grok the youth culture, I tell them it's the Saturday Night Live for our generation: it's the show that's funny, and relevant, and that all the good comedians get their starts in. Can't see a promo for a hot comedy lately without running into at least one name I recognize, and then they're touring and writing and all over.
Which of the Daily Show alumni / current correspondents do you like best in their non-Daily-Show work? (Stephen Colbert doesn't count.) |
