"Then we won't get caught," Genevieve replied, pausing in her tracks. "Please don't say anything, Penny. I couldn't bear it if he were sent away- I'd lose my mind around here! I just- I need him around." She blushed deeply at the admission and started forward again.
"I don't care about marriage prospects. I don't want any of those men who come by wanting me for my name or my dowry or whatever. They don't know me, and I sincerely doubt they'd let me ride or do anything I want to do! I want- I want somebody I can really talk to, who sees me for me and doesn't care about what family I was born into and lets me do the things I want to and actually likes me for it." She sighed, brushing a bit of hair back from her eyes. "I can't be what mama wants me to be."
