Era hadn't even considered the implications of transforming under duress. She had been hurt. She had needed Emi. In order to get to the other dragon, she had needed to be human. So she'd done it. It was that simple. Sometime when she wasn't in pain Era would think back on it all and be impressed with herself.
But for now, all that existed was the throbbing of her hand and the promise of the cool salve Emi would spread onto it. The surface of her arm ached and felt tender with bruises, but there was still a deeper pain that stabbed if she moved.
Fearfully, she looked up into Emi's eyes. Like I small child, she asked, "It'll hurt?" It already hurt. Era had never been injured like this before. And all the tactile sensations of her human body seemed magnified. It no longer seemed such a good idea to have changed.
