"Thank you. Good bye," Rena said simply. There was something about Abigail's smile that stirred something in her mind, some sort of familiarity that she hadn't noticed before but as she turned away, Rena felt it slip away. Perhaps she had seen her years ago, when she was too young and oblivious to know better, she reasoned, standing a moment to watch her walk away.
A sudden chill turned Rena back toward the door and when she pulled it open, the sound of laughter and music greeted her with full force. She set her melancholy thoughts aside and stepped into the warmth of the room where she was quickly greeted and urged to join in the dancing.
What had happened out in the lonely night, strange and sad as it had been, began to fade in the face of the joyful noise of the pub. The woman had been like a strange specter, unsettling but fading in the light, better not to dwell on. Rena let one of the pub patrons pull her into a lively dance and the sadness quieted itself and stowed itself away, at least for the time being.
