All Penny could do was hold on to Matt as he led the way deeper into the woods. She didn't dare speak a word; in fact, she barely even breathed and she could only hope that the bark would lead them on. It sounded like Lucky but Penny was too nervous to even say so.
She was positive, though, when they neared. "It's him, I just know it," she insisted and she gratefully took Matt's hand when he offered to help her off the horse. She followed Matt, periodically calling out so Lucky could find her, worrying that he wasn't coming.
"Oh, Lucky! How did you get in there?" she gasped when they finally found him. She knelt to the ground beside the hole, Lucky frantically squirming and whining at the sight of her. It was too deep for her to pull him out on her own. She would need help to get him out. "I bet if we dug a bit, he could jump out, with a little help..."
