Edric raised his eyebrows at her mendacious name. Years of watching body language had made him impeccable when it came to detecting people lying. Her pause when she said her name would have been obvious to most people. Edric concluded that she had snuck out of her home, and was now trying to avoid recognition.
“My name is Edric Caudley. Nice to meet you, Angie.” He replied with a flirtatious smirk, hooking his pinky around hers. It seemed like such a silly thing to do, though, for someone who was nearing the age of thirty.
Rude, or not, Edric was quite sure Angie was a good person. She had already tried to pay him for his losses twice, and even looked like she meant it with all her heart when she said she was sorry. He did not recognize the name she gave, as he had never paid much attention to the royals-or any of the aristocrats-after all.
“I hunt.” Edric replied to her question, not wanting to elaborate. It would just scare her off or make her uncomfortable, as most women of stature had proven before. He did not wish to see the look of utter disgust a previous lady had taken on when he had told her about his occupation.
Angie might be someone who secretly ventured into the ranks of the middle class society, but Edric thought that even she would reconsider taking his hand if she had known what that hand did for a living.
