"Wouldn't it? I think it would be marvelous to spend a night away from home! You don't suppose I could bring Lucky though, do you? He's really no trouble. I am not sure I could bear leaving him for the night," Penny replied, considering this option. She wasn't sure what it was like inside Gen and Julius's new home yet; she hadn't yet had the opportunity to go inside. She was sure, though, that if Lucky were to come that he would sleep by her side and not cause any trouble. He didn't like being left behind when Penny went on her adventures so she knew that if she left him at home overnight, he'd likely cry and drive the rest of the family mad. Penny wasn't sure what her mother would do in that situation but she was fairly certain she wouldn't like it!
The conversation turned more serious than Penny anticipated, though she shouldn't really have been surprised. Since Gen had fallen in love and avoided a marriage she didn't want, Penny had noticed that she had been particularly outspoken on Penny's own potential marriage matches. She supposed that it had something to do with the fact that their parents had so obviously made a poor choice with Humphrey Spebbington and the fact that Gen was so happy with the boy of her own choosing. Penny didn't blame her, exactly, but the topic made her a bit uncomfortable if only because she wasn't sure what to think on the topic.
"I am not sure what that feels like," Penny admitted cautiously, "but it is my hope to marry the love of my life, my soul mate. I hope that our parents find someone who is suitable and that I will fall in love and be as happy as you are. I am not sure what to expect, exactly, but I should hope I have the opportunity to get to know the man a bit before making a decision. After all, I was not terribly keen on their last choice." The reminder of that horrible incident was spoken in a low voice, as though Penny weren't sure if she wanted to bring it up at all. Still, it was just the two of them present and she only dared speak of it when she was certain she and Gen were alone.
