"Oh, I certainly am a fool," Rena agreed, laughing at the joke almost despite herself. But lest she draw unnecessary concern to herself, she hastily added, "Though, I'd be a fool to leave this place now. Truly." It was about as sincere as she could be, despite everything, and she needed Thomas to know that.
Rena glanced out at the room, realizing that she should probably be circulating, doing the job she had been doing for so long. It was hard to stand by and watch but it seemed that things were under control, at least for the moment. "Has she said anything?" Rena couldn't help but ask, wincing slightly as she realized how gossipy she sounded. It wasn't truly her intent to gossip so much but she couldn't help but wonder if the other woman had said anything at all about their encounter to Thomas.
