Admittedly, Thomas hadn't really thought that someone might be bothering Rena- and even if they had been, she of course knew how to handle herself. Still, her behavior was uncharacteristic, and Thomas couldn't help but worry- not just for his employee, but for his friend.
Her words, however, caught him off guard. "I-" Thomas gaped for a moment, then closed his mouth, resetting to try his reply again. "Thank you," he said, quietly. "I- I should have told you." Not that it had any particular bearing on Rena's job, but- well, she was a friend, and Thomas ought to have been able to share good news with her. "It wasn't any deliberate attempt to hide the news from you," he added, belatedly. "We hadn't told anyone, aside from Bridget."
