Is everything alright? If that wasn't a loaded question, Rena wasn't sure what was. She was fairly certain that the way she had just sputtered words out incoherently was proof enough that everything wasn't 'alright' but Rena knew that he was being polite, letting her do the talking rather than pry it out of her. The second question, though, threw her for a moment because she wasn't expecting it.
"What?" she blinked, her mind clearing momentarily. "Bothering me?" she repeated, slightly bewildered. She had been so focused on thinking of her troubles and berating her own lack of courage that the question seemed to come out of nowhere to her mind. "No, no no one is bothering me," she finally managed, shaking her head as she sorted through her own thoughts. If someone were bothering her, it certainly would have evoked this sort of reaction from the seasoned barmaid; she had never hesitated to put an overzealous customer into his place.
Rena sighed, rubbing her hands on her apron to give herself another moment to collect her thoughts. How could she even say this? "I know you're expecting another child, I should have congratulated you," she said, the words coming out in a rush. While it wasn't exactly what was bothering her, she was getting closer to the sensitive topic. It was frustrating, the way the words seemed to elude her. Usually, the words came out before she could stop them, causing all manner of trouble. To find herself struggling to express herself was a new challenge but it made it no easier for Rena to cope with.
