Molly turned to give Abby her full attention. It both puzzled and worried her that Abby would ever feel less than deserving. Slowly, but with the fervor that comes from being young and having steadfast belief in being correct, Molly spoke. “If they haven’t, then they’re fools. You are the sweetest, kindest person I have ever met. You – you took me in when you didn’t have to. Made me this pretty dress! No one else would do something like that for me. I’m – I’m not anybody. Abby, you don’t know – but things in Tide were so difficult. And it turned out that the person I thought I could trust…but that’s not the point. Abby, you should be happy.”
Molly hoped she wasn’t intruding too much on Abby’s generosity. She just hoped that the woman might give her a little insight into this most basic of female charms. It was foolish that she didn’t know already. “If you think a braid would work. Can you show me – teach me so that maybe I can do it again later?”
