"Well," Rena began thoughtfully, considering her response. "I won't bring it up to anyone but I'll answer truthfully if they ask. Does that sound appropriate? I don't want to seem like I'm gossiping!" Just like Abby didn't want to announce it to everyone for fear of seeming as though she were seeking attention, Rena imagined it would sound strange if she walked up to people and announced that Abby was having a baby. She was certain, though, that word would indeed spread. Rena wasn't sure what people thought of Abby, being that she worked close enough with the family to be excluded from that sort of discussion but she could only hope that town's love of Thomas would color their opinion. Rena knew how it could be; she was as guilty as anyone else of making snap judgments.
The subtle way Abby's hand moved to her belly made Rena smile though, pushing those thoughts aside. "I imagine it's not one of those things that can go unnoticed for long," she observed with a soft chuckle. "I know you've been through this before but... is it strange?" It was an unusual question, she knew, but never having been pregnant herself, she wondered at what it was like.
