Rena shrugged her shoulders at Abby's admission. "I wouldn't have been able to either when I was here only a month. In fact, I was a lot worse at it than you were," she admitted, lowering her eyes. It was a hard admission to make, being that Rena was guilty of being far too proud for her own good. But she had a bit more respect for Abby now, seeing her muster up the courage she did to save Thomas and Bridget and perhaps because of it, was willing to give in a little. Just a little. "Besides, I would help you." She hadn't really meant to say that but it came out and she knew it to be true so she left it at that.
"Of course," Rena replied, though she noticed that remembering that night made Abby somewhat uncomfortable. "It's done now and they're both safe, thank goodness." During those long nights when they had been gone, Rena had spent many sleepless hours vowing that if they came back safely, she wouldn't begrudge the time Bridget now spent with her mother instead of her. She could accept that, she promised, if she came back safely. "I'm so glad they're safe," she repeated softly.
