Rena had never spoken before about the incident in the moat that had taken place ten years before - nearly eleven now that she thought about it. It had terrified her but she hadn't the option of stopping to think about it; her only option had been to go forward. If she had even for a moment stopped to think about what had happened, she might not have gone forward and things might have gone very differently in her life.
"You're not making me do anything," Rena reminded Molly quietly. "When I was growing up, I was told that if you fell off a horse you had to get right back on or else you'd be afraid forever. I've been afraid for so long, I'm not even sure this will work but I have to try. I never had to opportunity to learn before but if I let it pass me by I might not forgive myself." Rena shook her head slightly but she was still determined. If there was one thing Rena hated it was not having control of her own life and the helpless feeling she had around water frightened her.
Still, Molly's fear of horses came as a surprise to her. "Horses, huh? I could see how they'd be scary to a small one," she mused, though she had been exposed to them enough that she hadn't really been afraid of them. After all, they had needed them to travel just as Molly had thought of the water and ships as a way to travel. "So strange how where you grow up affects how you see things," she murmured. She thought perhaps that she could offer to let Molly meet her mare, who was sweet and docile in her old age but she figured that would be another problem for another day. For now, they had other things to conquer.
Molly's amusement seemed to come from nowhere but it brought a smile to Rena's lips all the same. "Clearly, we are both gluttons for punishment," Rena observed with a laugh, appreciating the levity Molly had brought back to the conversation.
