Rena smiled nervously when Molly suggested that the first thing she learn to do was float. Even that seemingly simple concept was frightening to a girl whose one and only experience being submerged in water involved heavy skirts and floating did not seem possible. "What is one supposed to wear when attempting to float?" Rena asked tentatively, only slightly reassured by Molly's promise that she wouldn't let her drown. As much as she hoped that was the case, she had her doubts that Molly would be able to lift her.
"In terms of the writing," Rena continued, pressing her lips together. "When would you like to begin? Would you like me to help you write this letter tonight?" she inquired, indicating toward laboriously written letters on the page. "What can I do to help you?" She figured that it was the least she could do because at the rate she was going, she figured Molly might be working on that letter straight through the night.
