Penny was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the way the conversation was going, particularly when Gen started to bristle as she was doing. It reminded Penny that whatever class she had been born to, Gen had chosen to abandon that in favor of love and it stood to reason that she might be defensive about that choice.
"I never said he wasn't a decent human being, Gen," Penny protested. "Nor do I deny that he is well-respected. We're just... different. It's the way it is. But truly, must we argue about this? I wish we wouldn't, I haven't seen you in weeks and I don't want us to spend our time together fighting." This was truly distressing Penny, which was evident in her anxious expression. Unlike Gen, she didn't rise to a debate but rather, she shrunk from it, the conflict making her uneasy.
