Molly nodded at Abby, taking in what she said. Zachary, that’s right, Thomas had mentioned him. The cook. She’d make a point of staying on his good side. Service always went better when the cook was happy. Molly accepted it as a universal truth.
When Abby looked up, Molly followed the direction of her gaze and saw that another person had entered. The woman – Rena – was tall and walked with a confident familiarity around the pub. Molly wondered what Abby meant when she said that Rena could help her more with the pub. Abby’s family owned the pub; wouldn’t she be the best one to ask for information? She assumed that was Abby’s polite way of getting rid of her. Not that she could really blame her. Molly knew she wasn’t easy company right now. She could only hope that prep for service would start soon, so she’d have something to do to keep her and her mouth out of trouble.
When Rena walked over, Molly stood again. Only this time, it wasn’t manners as much as a need to meet this woman on an equal footing. Molly hadn’t missed the once over Rena gave her. She didn’t care for it but bit her tongue. If Rena cared to look, Molly’d present herself as someone worth the position she was being offered. Molly straightened up and met Rena’s eye while putting on the professional smile she used on the patrons. “Thank you. I’m very happy to be here.”
