Vaan had been doing nothing but pour over maps of the surrounding areas and review over his logs from the first days they'd been gone. Domenic hadn't returned yet and only one of the soldiers had come back to the castle. He hadn't any wounds, but later developed early signs of the Grey Death. This too frightened Vaan. If one person in, or near, Greenville had the illness that put everyone else at risk. He was to go to the castle the next morning to speak with several advisors and town councilors about these recent events and they were to decide on what to do.
Lost in his thoughts, he started a bit when he heard the knock on his door. Without taking his eyes away from the maps in front of him he called out, "Come in!" thinking it was Thomas. The inn keep said that he would stop by that afternoon to speak with him about his journey and so he thought nothing of it. He couldn't, however, stop thinking about the events of the night before.
A part of him had regretted kissing Gabrielle. He wasn't sure if she had reacted sincerely, or if she had only returned his kiss to be polite. He wasn't sure if he had really wanted to do it or if he had done it on impulse. His elders knew about it though and they were anything but happy with him for it. They had no right to reprimand him, but it had an unpleasant visit to the Citadel and he was not pleased with them.
