It hadn't have been what Penny expected for her sister's wedding when they were growing up together, not by a long shot, but even Penny couldn't deny the fact that they couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Penny hadn't realized she was doing it and if Gen had pointed it out to her, she would have stopped in embarrassment but she had hummed as she laced the dress and dressed her sister's hair with flowers. After all, it was her sister's wedding and a happy occasion. She couldn't help but feel joy welling inside her, the way Gen smiled girlishly and she took a small measure of delight in the way Gen was fretting, not because she she liked to see her sister worry but more because it meant that this day was important to her, just as Penny knew her wedding day would be.
Penny didn't tell Gen that the wedding had resulted in the first true fight she had ever had with their mother. Penny assumed that either Gen knew and was pretending not to or that she'd rather not know. Penelope the elder, for all her faults, was a persistent women, one who was determined to do all in her power to stop the wedding. She would even stoop so low as attempt to coerce one twin against another, attempting to gain Penny's support in convincing Gen and Germaine to put a stop to the "nonsense". She had been floored when Penny refused and when she persisted, that the usually obedient girl had walked right out of the room. There was no doubt that things were changing in the Brisbois household and fast; things were slipping out of her control.
But the wedding day was not a day for sadness or concern, at least not for any concern beyond whether the luncheon would be on time or if the weather would cooperate and Gen and Julius were fortunate enough to be faced with neither problem. Penny had tears in her eyes when she saw the beautiful bride Gen had become, gently folding her into her arms so not to wrinkle the delicate white fabric of her gown.
"You're beautiful," she had murmured, attempting to keep her tears in check. And that said, they went together to the wedding. While their mother would have been furious to see it, Penny stood with pride by her sister, wishing her all the blessings in the world. Even Penny had to admit their was a beauty to the simplicity of the ceremony, a beauty that was natural and sincere, just as her sister was. Once the vows had been said, there was no preventing the tears from sliding down Penny's smiling face.
And it was done, the pair seeming happier than ever as they pulled each other into a tender kiss. Penny watched and then blushed slightly, feeling as though she should look away. Her eyes caught Matthias's eyes then and they shared a smile before Penny turned back to her sister.
Genevieve was wrapped in her moment but just for an instant her eyes broke away from Julius, sweeping the room, and just in that instant, Penny caught her gaze. "I love you," she mouthed with a smile, realizing that in its way, the wedding had been nothing short of perfect.
