"I couldn't either," she admitted. "He said he went into town to learn how to make jewelry just so he could make my ring." To be honest, Gen hadn't thought much about what her ring might someday look like, as she'd spent so much time simply not wanting to be married in the way her mother had always said she would. But this ring was perfect- she couldn't imagine herself with a fancy gemstone or anything of the like.
"I don't think I ever thought I'd be in such a hurry to marry," Gen admitted with a laugh of her own. "Not when Mother kept insisting I'd find some rich man and all of that arranged marriage business. And I've no doubt she'll take this sitting down. But I won't have any of it- if Papa's given his permission, then she has no reason to argue with him over it."
"I don't see why there wouldn't be enough time," she commented, nibbling her lower lip. "I don't imagine we'll be getting married quite so soon as tomorrow or anything like that! But..yes, please. I think- I think that would be lovely. I still need to decide which dress to wear, or perhaps- well, they still have my measurements from when they fitted us for our birthday gowns...I wonder if we might have enough time to have a simple dress made, or- oh, I'm just not sure! Perhaps you can go through my wardrobe with me later and see if I have anything that might be suitable?"
