"How very kind of you," Penny smiled, though her gratitude was sincere. Matt's words reminded her of the fact that others had to work for a living and weren't at liberty to walk about town on a whim. It didn't seem as though he minded overmuch, though, unless Penny was misreading him.
Penny glanced around, smoothing her skirt as though preparing to leave. "Would you mind showing me about town a little? I've explored some but I'm afraid I know little of goes on here," she admitted. "And then, of course, I will go fetch my mare and head back home." Though she would be back, that much was certain, with her sister for one, but also to bring the books for her new friend.
