"I do," Penny replied quietly, smiling toward her sister. She wasn't aware of the lectures that their mother gave her because, being the daughter that did what she was told, she didn't require such lectures. Mrs. Brisbois was certainly not inclined to praise, at least not the girls, and she never had said much to Penny regarding marriage, at least not specifically.
Penny shook her head emphatically at Gen's suggestion. "Oh no! It wasn't that! I just wasn't sure what I thought of the whole thing and you've been distracted lately and, well, it just seemed to me that talking about it was like looking for trouble. I'm glad you know now, though, because I hated feeling like I was hiding something from you," she admitted with a sigh.
