Penny wrinkled her nose when Gen referred to her as the 'pretty one'. "Stop or I'll begin to think you are flattering me," she insisted with a laugh. "You certainly exaggerate. 'Flock to me'? If that were true, then I'd be married by now and I can assure you that I am not given the opportunity to pick anything." Penny shook her head, wondering at her sister's perception of her and how vastly different it was than her own perception of herself.
"I suppose," Penny replied as Gen reflected on her thoughts on their mother. "It might have been better, though. She might have had a care for our happiness. But I guess you're right not to dwell on what could have been and accept what is. Really, there is no point in wishing for what cannot be. And I like you as you are." The last was added in a tone a bit more playful, indicating that Penny wasn't going to dwell on her thoughts and idle fantasies.
