It was all Rena could do to keep from making a face as Abby willingly brought up the uncomfortable spectre of her past that even Rena, bold as she could be, was reluctant to speak of. In a way, Abby was right; it was difficult for Rena to look past what she had done but without the experience, she had a hard time believing a person could be forced to do it.
"Perhaps it would have been better had you been there for them during those past ten years," Rena muttered harshly, even realizing that had that been the case, she likely wouldn't be where she was. After all, if Bridget had a mother, Thomas might not even have taken her in that rainy night. Still, Rena wasn't known for being thoughtful when upset and she was certainly upset.
With Abby in the sink scrubbing already, she started cleaning up the kitchen, putting things where they were supposed to be and beginning to scrub the cooking surfaces.
