He moved like rippling silk, his body all elegant lines and barely restrained power. His lips curled in a satisfied smile, he wove through the Court as Seelie, Unseelie, and mortal alike blinked, the remnants of the potions leaving their systems. A fine play by the Queen. A fine play, indeed. He couldn't have planned it better had he done so himself, and he had considered it. The planning, at least, not the executing. He was so rarely allowed to execute in the best sense of the word at the Queen's parties. The ballroom was empty when he entered, and for a moment, he stood in the quiet serenity of the empty marble room, his eyes shut. He drank in the pleasure of the Queen's power, inhaling it until it was as much a part of him as his skin and more important than his bones. Not that he really needed bones at all. Mortal affectations, skeletons, with little use for him. Still, a skeleton had its use, and he went to his knees as she entered the ballroom behind him. "My love," he said, reaching for her hand when she offered it. He kissed the tip of each finger and then her palm, and her nails curled against his face, pricking his skin. "You were divine." The King tipped back his head and gave his lover and his Queen a smile of pure joy, a smile that would make mortal eyes turn to jelly before burning their brains to ash. She simply smiled back at him. |
