WHO: Zoe and Colt. WHAT: Finding out if she's pregnant or not. WHEN: Now. WHERE: Her apartment and then his house, WHERE SHE BELONGS. RATING: TBD
Colt had heard the things that Zoe was putting in her writings before. A desire for strange foods or one specific food in as many ways as possible. Hell, he had two kids, he’d been through it twice before. So, when he saw what she was writing, the things she said and then how she described herself as feeling extra emotional and sensitive lately? He knew it was time to go for a test and find out if she was pregnant or maybe having an off-period cycle or something.
Not that he tracked hers or really knew much about them, but he had, had a wife once so he knew some things. Enough to know hormones made you a crazy person. After finishing up his work he drove home to check on his children and to pay the baby sitter for some extra time watching them while he went out to get Zoe.
He stopped at a store on his way to her apartment picking up several pregnancy tests since, from his experience, girls didn’t always believe the first one and often took another one just to be sure they weren’t going crazy and seeing things. His wife, with their first, took almost eight tests before she let herself believe she was pregnant. It was a strange ritual she did with their second as well, taking four tests with Cole.
Once he had the tests in hand, he drove to her apartment and parked. He paused looking down at his phone to speak with his brother for a moment or two, before he placed it down in the holder and got out of the car, making his way up to her apartment. He knocked, rather than just checking to see if it was open. While he could have and he knew she’d have let him do it, it was still polite to knock and be allowed in rather than forcing yourself in when it wasn’t your home.
When she answered, Colt pulled her into a hug and held her like that for a long moment, taking in being close to her. While he still had mixed feelings about everything, he knew that he did care for her a great deal. Why mixed feelings? Colt had loved his wife, he had. His wife had been his rock and his support. He also held a lot of guilt over her death because it was in part his fault for phantoms coming after him and killing her instead. He also held fear that, that same situation would happen again, only this time with Zoe and he didn’t want to go through that again. Didn’t want his children to face that again.
But letting Zoe go wasn’t an option, not one he was willing to explore at any rate. “Why don’t you grab your things and come with me back to the house? You’ll have some privacy in the bathroom, and I can be close in case the boys need me. Or us.” He tried convincing her since he wanted her in his home. Somewhere he could protect her, somewhere that held his weapons if needed, especially right now if she was pregnant with his child.
Once he had her convinced, he drove them back to his home, leading her inside and paying the babysitter the last of the money before she left the two alone, Colt and Cole having already been tucked in for the night. “Here,” he said handing her the bag of tests. “In my experience you’ll likely need more than one to convince you either way so I just bought you every different kind there was for you to experiment with. Come on, we’ll go to the master bathroom and I’ll wait outside till you’re done and we can face whatever it says, together.”
