There was drug from the depths a bloated thing -- a sack of spoilt remains that had been left to fester on the catacomb floors. Its impermeable stench caught the edges of his robes -- the soles of his shoes -- and seeped mercilessly into that fabric that belied little of its transgressions, fabric that smothered all its sin in darkness; but still, death clung close to the anointed, pairing withered lily with the scent of carnage.

Foolishly, he'd thought the dead flowers would help. )

It was dry.

Salt lick air on those shanty liquor docks, the night was dry even with the finest mist of wave crested ship hulls tugging at their leads, snorting their barnacled saliva in spits and spatters on that dry rot they called wood. The sea sighed. The pier moaned.

And all Set wanted was to close his eyes and listen to her howl. )

The sand greeted the sun with crystalline conspiracy, uttering a morse of moving blinks as the rays rose, the leftover whisper of starre stories from the depths of night's darkness. Celestial fire-warmth first greeted his feet, each bound in beaded leather and rainbow thread, and spread - to his thighs, his chest, arms, fingers, eyes, summoning him awake to a sky that no longer matched the color of his pupils. The sun had long leeched the ocean from the atmosphere, leaving behind a inhumanely inhumid blank screen of light, colorless and bright. When he sat up, he saw that heat had muddled the landscape; it swirled in waves of gaussian blur marred with the oil overtones of an impressionist's strokes. )

The scene was as lovely as usual. The sun was out and the wind teased the docks, ropes swaying by the wood and saltwater staining all it touched. Various ships, no matter their size, were majestic, these creations that held so many people and secrets. There were stories on those ships, the boats exchanging them with each other in a language only they knew. Seabirds cried, settling on the siding, posts, and whichever they could get a hold of )

[[We had been working on this before the festival event started, so we wanted to get it posted before we went off to do the prompt! :D]]

It was really pissing now, and he wasn't exactly dressed for the weather.

Especially considering his... cargo. He kept the warm little bundle tucked under his coat, humming under his breath, an old Olsir tune to calm them both. He could already feel his hands shaking where they clutched the swaddled blankets. Which was strange, because he felt perfectly calm.

It was eerie, really, how level he felt, considering the circumstances. He chuckled to himself, swiped a hand over his face, wiping away raindrops that smeared pinkish before being swept away by the downpour.

His coat made a discontented mewling noise and he shushed it gently, hurrying down the dark, empty streets and slogging through dingy puddles.

He wasn't entirely sure where he was going, but anywhere was better than this deluge. )

In the wake of volatile times, the King sought desperate measures.

Silence of political unrest fell heavy upon Thellondel. In an effort to exhibit the lingering (however false) peace between the four nations, King Eland called for a Festival to break the mundanity of the winter months, ushering in renewed faith and goodwill betwixt leaders and upper-class of each of the four regions.

The Festival has extended to the lower classes; the streets are busy, rejuvenated with visitors from each land -- they are crowded and vibrant, alight with colour from masks, flowers, and food, each merchant striving to leave his mark in the monochrome of winter and impending changes in the pecking order above.

`*`

what does this mean for my character?
This means that if you are royal or of upper class -- congrats! You've been summoned to Thellondel to partake in the activities! Spanning the various royal estates are servants provided for guest residences -- it is not mandatory, but to decline invitation would be rather poor social form. More concrete dates (banquets, panels with certain royals to discuss matters of trade/commerce/rich people things) will be announced as we get a bit more into the event.

If you are lower class, the festivities have descended down the social thrungs -- the peasants are having celebrations of their own, from street fairs to events at the taverns and lounges. However, all formal and official scheduled events are of the more sociopolitical nature and have been kept to the royal guests of King Eland. If your character owns a business, feel free to take liberties and have them run events in their establishments!!

how long is this going to go for?
As of now the event is going to be self-perpetuating. We are hoping that you can make new connections through this event, as everyone seems to have stagnated with lines relevant to their specific regional alignment. This is your chance to get your character involved in someone they wouldn't ordinarily -- for example, Felix would likely never hang out with the likes of Ran. Make things like this your intention! If it goes well and you are all enjoying it, we will be taking feedback and running the event based on player response. If it stagnates, the event will be concluded.

weren't we all in Thellondel anyway?
Yes, but everyone seems to have retained a sense of nationalism xD. Use this to push your character to seek out new people and new perspectives on life. Some characters, as well, have been marginally involved because they are rarely out and about. This also gives the high upper-class the excuse to be in very close quarters, something not really encouraged by the political unrest of the game thus far. It also perpetuates the court intrigue aspect, as there is likely to be quite a bit of drama arising.

any other inquiry not addressed
I can't stress enough, you guys -- EMAIL ME!!! Part of the complaints I received upon restarting the game were that a large portion of you were stuck with your plots because you needed involvement of mod characters and couldn't progress your stories any further. I am, for all intents and purposes, puppeting Nen's characters for the time being, so if you had plot with her let me know so I can eradicate the problems and help you get your guys up and running again!! I've not received much contact from many people, but there was quite a bit of secrecy amongst the mods to keep court intrigue as real as possible, too -- this meaning, if you had plots with Nen that weren't addressed in logs yet, I won't know of them. I wanna help you guysssss ;o; don't be shy please, please, please -- just because I'm not on AIM doesn't mean I'm not around. ALSO, if you feel the need to address things that would be better dealt with in rapidfire conversation, GChat is tied to my mobile -- besidethegramophone, just like my e-mail. I nanny, so my responses may have little lulls (much like texts) because my focus is the children, but I guarantee I will address anything that you bring to me!

Ask any questions in the comments below, or e-mail! :D Otherwise, have fun and get to plotting, beautiful babies!! ♥

He fell down a fetid rabbit hole that smelled of death and the damp of surrounding earth -- of funerary beds and sickly-sweet lilies that had rotted away with the memories of the long-forgot. The Prince avoided this place -- at all costs, with little difficulty -- but at the behest of his brother’s silence, at the urging of his Uncle’s strange and stilted visit, he made his way downdowndown, deep into the darkness that had engulfed his brother, his cousin -- one and the other until it had beckoned him in turn, promising the souls of family who had once been fearless, kind --

once been more than monsters. )

"I must be. For now, the catacombs were the only solution." )

PLEASE NOTE That as we are returning to regular play, if we do not hear from you on the check-in post by Sunday, February 24th your character is going to be suspended from the game. If we receive notification that you are still interested afterwards they will be re-instated, but in the meantime it will be as though they were voluntarily dropped.

There have been absences, and silences, and for this we apologize.

Though the holidays are enough to derail any one person, it seems that it belayed many of our players, and, most unfortunately (and regrettably), your mods. I want to extend, first and foremost, our deepest and sincerest apologies. We never meant for the game to falter, but circumstance got the better of everyone at, seemingly, the exact same time, so we're left here to pick up the pieces and pray that you're still with us.

The amount of inquiries we received about the status of the game was overwhelming and, quite honestly, incredibly humbling. We were never really certain that this game would catch on outside of a few players we'd known before, and we're so grateful to you all -- for helping us build and expand a world we -- at first -- didn't take all that seriously, one that is becoming a thorough, complex, beautiful universe you all helped to create. We thank you, and we love love love you all.

Now, to business.

You will see the website is once again functional, though it has transferred domains. Please note that it can now be found at http://kneeknockers.net/exvoto, as opposed to the previous luvluv.net. It was restored from incomplete archives, so please go through and check to make sure everyone of yours is properly listed.

We intend to pick up activity again just as soon as everyone can be contacted and accounted for. In the wake of Elle and Nen's absence, I will be doing my best to get to everyone personally, but should you see this on your own please contact any other players you see sneaking about online! Due to my jobs I cannot be on AIM with the level of normalcy you came to expect from Elle and Nen, so please direct anyone you see floating about in your buddy list to this post so that we can create a dialogue and see who is still interested. If you see this and decide to part with us, at the very least we ask you leave a paragraph explaining your character's dismissal from the game (travelling, spirit quest, death, et cetera), or, if you're feeling generous, a solo write-out (including notes to others, if you wish!) so that you can afford all other remaining characters closure in-game.

Though I can't get on AIM quite as much as I'd like, I am always available at besidethegramophone at gmail dot com, and have been doing most of my scenes through there as well. Please don't be shy with any questions, concerns, comments, anything at all! An in-game event is being planned (due to Liz's amazing suggestion, so give her mad props! ♥), and will be posted when it is clearer the position of all our players. For the sake of convenience and transparency, leave a note here so that we know you've read this, as well as your status regarding returning to normal activity with us.

Again, we apologize for the radio silence, but more importantly -- we're all so glad and excited to be back, and hope you are as well!

Periodic Predicaments. [Feb. 4th, 2013|04:14 pm]

The sun tasted like silver upon his throat, with fire fingers caressing the paperwhite skin stretched taught, his neck craned just so to recall the habits of a feline basking in celestial warmth. Upon his folded arms he was resting, those limbs perfectly perched to push the front half of his body out of the single window in his lab, legs lazily crossed as they, instead, dwelled in the shadows of his floor. His eyes were closed to divine the phosphenes engraved into the underside of those thin lids, manifesting themselves as unstable shapes of iridescent reds and oranges, constantly marbling his vision with solar swirls of coronas convalescence. )

[ set some days after this ]

The sun was out, threatening to blind as it often was, but it hid behind a veil of clouds, peering out from time to time. There were no high winds, only teasing breezes, and the water rippled as calmly as usual. All in all, a more than decent day to relax. A day to say "fuck it", abandon all duties, and live freely for a few hours. )
