"We call ourselves Rangers. We protect the Hellmouths, and what is inside of them. We have for as long as they have existed."
All of the Watchers were there for this meeting, the Slayers sent on various errands that would get them out of the house. The brothers had insisted. And, in return, they said that they would explain what they knew of the texts that had been being deciphered, and the code that hadn't been broken yet. And how it was, exactly, that they were able to read it.
Gabriel hesitated, looking to Rafe, visibly uncomfortable with the situation. But what choice did they have? The situation was more dire than they could have guessed, and more dangerous than what their brothers knew. Telling these kinds of secrets was tantamount to begging for a knife in the throat, but not acting on what they'd found out would be the same as condemning them all the death.
"Your texts -- these prophecies. When they speak of the Cassian sect, that it was never extinct. They are speaking the truth. We -- our brothers and ourselves. We are their descendants. We believe that is what this phrase means -- the watchers of the key. The key to understanding the dead language that this prophecy is in. It is with the Cassians. We were all trained in it, to read it."
The twins exchanged a look again before continuing.
"It is a Slayer's blood that will open this Hellmouth again. It will awaken Kali. A Slayer that does not belong with the others. ...Your boy." They'd seen him leave, and he seemed to be the only one that could fit the bill. Right? Gabriel noticed several of the Watchers glancing toward a younger female in their group but wasn't sure why.
There was murmuring then, and more questions coming at them, waiting to be answered.
