It began as a simple feeling. Something was wrong, out of place. It tugged at his mind, demanding attention. His eyes darted around the room in thought. Had he forgotten something? Yes and no, was the answer he could come up with. There was nothing he had forgotten, he was sure. But he couldn’t quite wrap his mind around the yes. It was as if something painfully obvious had slipped from his mind, giggling at his incompetence from somewhere just out of reach.
He did not like it. He did not like it at all.
And then it was suddenly there, staring back at him. Eyes that he had only seen as a blurry echo of themselves for more than ninety years. His eyes, his face as a perfect reflection. He couldn’t help but stare at the mirror that hung between two of the windows. So this was what he looked like. Mitchell already knew his general features from the reflections in windows but to see them so perfectly clear was different, scary in a way. What was happening?
Suddenly, anxiety gripped his heart. This couldn’t be. His right hand flew to his chest. No heartbeat, still dead. He blinked at let his eyes turn black. Still a vampire. His mouth opened slightly at the monster that stared back at him from the mirror. His eyes turned normal again. What was going on? The train had made Annie visible. Maybe it started to change him too.
