Laura was unsure what had woke her, whether it some strange sound, or a scent that was off. Nothing seemed to register as strange. Until she opened her eyes. The familiar face, a very familiar face, of the man- the mutated alien- she'd grown to adore laying beside her. Except, this was not her bed on the train. The linens were different, softer, warmer. The room was entirely different, bigger in size, and arranged like that of a house. There were large windows that peered out to greenery that she could see from the bed. The sound of life within the house filled her ears. A smile touched the lips of the man that lay beside her. "Good morning, my Laura." He had ventured. Something that he had called her since that first day. An endearment that she had grown to enjoy hearing. He was dressed in a suit and tie, and had been obviously waiting for her to wake. Leaning close he kissed her lips. "Our children are awake, their lunches made, they simply wait for you for breakfast. I must go to work early, but I will not stay late." He seemed to promise. His hand came up to caress her face, before he kissed her once more, "I love you." He whispered, before he pushed himself up, seemingly reluctant to leave. Though once he did tears seemed to come to her eyes of their own violation. Love. And children. As she rolled from the bed, she noticed the reason she was not as agile as he should be, there was a rather large swell adorning her front. The movement beneath her fingers, as she explored it, told her it was new life. With a gasp the tears that had lined her lower lashes coursed down her cheeks. She knew what she felt was happiness, as she had had so few glimpses of it in her life, it was not hard to see it as it was. The soft whispers of Mommy, from the door, drew her attention. Two children, one boy and one girl, that had enough of her own characteristics- and Dalek's- that there was no doubting they were hers, rushed in and wrapped themselves around her. "Please can we stay home from school? We want to stay home with you and little sister." Pleaded the boy, the oldest. The little girl, younger by two years at least-by the scent of her, nodded vigorously. Instinct told her to hold them close, as they did her. "School is important to growing minds." She found herself saying. Hearing a knock on the door she raised her head to see who else would be entering her bedroom. She knew this wasn't real. She knew this was a life she could not have. |
