The sun was slowly beginning to vanish behind the glassy facades. For once the houses were painted in red and golden yellow. Mitchell blinked against the lingering brightness as he took off shades. The light did not hurt anymore but it was uncomfortable at first; as if someone had flashed the light of a torch in his direction. He was thankful that they seemed to have found the only deserted corner in the whole of New York. There were people wherever you went and with people came blood. It was intoxicating: the sight, the smell. He could feel it on his lips, his tongue, the warmth that would spread through his body once he swallowed and the utter bliss that came with it. Not being around this temptation felt like holidays.
His eyes turned to Annie who was sitting on the bench next to him. “Any plans for this evening?” he asked her, breaking the comfortable silence.
