It hadn't been entirely intentional. She'd meant to call it a night when Lily had, with the promise she'd finish up her drink and follow along with them to the train. However, she knew April and Roland were on the train, and she was sort of not interested in having another conversation with them. She'd said her bit and she couldn't believe they were seriously hanging around the train like it was some joke or something. It wouldn't matter, if they were already trapped. But if they weren't, she thought the odds were going up the longer they hung around. Still, it wasn't her problem, and she knew it was just misplaced guilt because they'd found Jake's ticket, and Jake's phone, and Jake had been her roommate. And she'd slept with Roland. She was partially convinced that was somehow tied into the whole thing, because what were the odds? So when a cute bloke had started chatting her up, she sort of forgot she was supposed to go back to the train. She didn't wind up going home with him (in no small part due to her paranoia he'd somehow find someone else's ticket and phone), but they did spend most of the night hanging out together and fooling around a little. When she finally made it back to the train, she had coherence enough to shower and crash, and she didn't even stir when Ray woke up. She'd spent the day quietly, nursing her hangover and mostly dodging people. Then she'd retired after dinner to the bedroom to catch up on the sleep she'd somehow lost in translation. She thought she should spend the next few days actually shopping for things since -- according to their devices -- the train was due to take off in a few days. Jaime had dressed in one of her slinkier nightgowns, mostly because she liked how it fit, and she hadn't honestly been thinking about how Ray might react to it. Nor did it really cross her mind to think one of them could probably relocate to the other cars. This was her room, and he'd moved in, and she wasn't inclined to kick him out. He was good company, even if it was sometimes hard to remember why she was so adamant she wasn't going to fuck on the train when he was around. Still, she had no intentions of starting anything. Having managed to mostly chase off her headache, Jaime had an open bottle of water next to her in bed, and she was propped up on two pillows (since he wasn't in here to use his just then) to read. Tomorrow, she guessed, she'd corral Lily and start helping with the supply runs they were saving for the end. The perishable foods and the last minute things. For now though ... she was content to relax and read and think about how she was going to miss this when the train started moving again. |
