Had Sherlock Holmes had any kind of experience in matters of the heart he would have know that the words <i>'Oh, and there's something you should know'</i> should not directly follow an invitation to your shiny new boyfriend to have dinner with your close female acquaintance. But Sherlock Holmes had no experience in matters of the heart, nor the empathy to think of something as ludicrous as the bad news that could follow such a statement, common on daytime talk shows and the like.
So, as it was, Sherlock had finished his conversation with Annie, his close female acquaintance, and pulled himself up from the bed to rummage through the clothes he had borrowed from unknown sources to replace his usual 'thinking clothes.' Dressing gown. Pajama bottoms. T-shirt.
John looked dashing as ever, so there was no need to give him too much of a heads up as to where they were going or what they were doing. Not until he was fully dressed, anyway.
"Annie has invited us to dinner with herself and Mitchell," he said, wandering up behind John and the now handsomely decorated map of New York, highlighting such sights as the city's largest crematorium, several undertakers and the many hospitals. He leaned down to press a kiss to the top of John's head, subtly inhaling the smell he adored so much. "She's very keen to meet you. And I'd love for you to meet her, I think you'll get along famously."
Sherlock pressed another little kiss into John's hair and backed away to find the shoes he had kicked off at some point the night before. One was by the bed, the other hidden in the corner. "Oh," he paused, remembering suddenly the conversation he'd finished not three minutes ago. "-and there's something you should know."
