As the bright sun shown through her windows, Regina awoke and a flood of memories flew through her mind. Her body began shaking with the realization that the train had pulled her into its latest plan to destroy them completely. For days she had walked around helplessly looking for Daniel. Remembering only that they had planned to runaway together. And assumed that they'd gotten separated somewhere along the way. For days all she could remember was being 17 and so very much in love. A love born of something so pure and innocent and so very true. But that wasn't the truth. No, Daniel had been murdered by her mother. By someone who was supposed to care and nurture her and instead had torn her apart. Had taken away her only chance at happiness. Her innocence and love of life destroyed. So easily she had fallen prey to Rumple's manipulations. Believed that if he had taught her magic that she could bring her love back. Anything to get out of the loveless marriage that she had with the king. But her hopes been dashed when the only person capable of bringing her love back from the dead had failed. The only left had been to turn to the darkness that Rumple offered her. It was the only thing that would fill the emptiness that now resided in her heart. Sure her mother was gone and couldn't control her love anymore but it hadn't ever been about that. Daniel is what kept her grounded to reality and to the light within her heart. Without him she was lost to the darkness and would forever remain so. From then on she had become the Evil Queen. Inciting a terror into everyone who crossed her path. The Evil Queen who used the genie to kill the king, sent the huntsman after her stepdaughter and then enslaved him, used Charming to trick Snow into meeting her and then forced the girls hand into eating the enchanted apple. The very Evil Queen who had cursed an entire land to live in one without magic devoid of the memories of their former life. A life devoid of true love. It wasn't so much the fact that she'd forgotten events that had taken place following Daniel's death that ate away at her battered heart. Yes, she did indeed have a heart, no matter what anyone else thought. It was just so broken that it was far easier to hide behind the coldness and hatred. The only one that she'd even remotely let that close to her heart had been Henry but then even he had begun to pull away. What ate away at her the most was that for a few days she was innocent and vulnerable. Vulnerable for all to see. And to make matters worse no sooner had she awoken that day than did she run into Emma. Emma Swan. The precious Savior, Snow and Charming's daughter, the one who escaped her curse, and the one who was determined to take the only thing that she had left in the world and cared about from her. Her son. Even as Henry continued to pull away she knew that she would always fight for him. He was her son. She'd raised him from when he was only a few weeks old. Nurtured him despite the horrors that lurked in her past. People could claim what they wanted about her but when it came to Henry they could never say that she didn't love her son. She inwardly cringed when the realization that Emma had also learned that part of her had loved Snow once upon a time. Even after Daniel's death she couldn't hate the young princess. It was only after her attempts to bring Daniel back had failed that she pushed the feelings away and masked them behind feigned concern. And now those long forgotten feelings had been revealed. The part of her that had the potential to actual show love for someone other than her own happiness. There was only so much that Regina could take when it came to Emma Swan. The blonde had become the bane of her existence and now she knew things that Regina had wished to never reveal. Knowledge that could be used against her. As her fingers clenched she vowed to not let whatever Emma Swan threw at her cause her to turn the remaining passengers of the train against her. Or at the very least not let it get to her in a public setting. She could always make a trip to the blonde's room like before and give her a piece of her mind. Emma may have gotten the upper hand in their fight the last time but now that her magic was back she could turn the tables. |
