Sleepless Nights
Characters: Lily, open
When: Thursday night
Location: Front parlor car
Warnings/Rating: None anticipated
Summary: Lily can't sleep
Status: Open, ongoing
Lily wasn’t on patrol, and she should be sleeping. As it was though, she couldn’t. She didn’t imagine any of them really would be, on or off patrol. Still, she was pretending she was at least resting, settled in the front parlor car with a book. She had to sleep, at some point. Especially if this was going to be one of the longer adventures the train gave them. She just … couldn’t. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the horrors of the war. It didn’t help at all that so many of them had been snatched back lately -- and that Sirius was again among them. If only he could have stayed for the rescue -- and while Jaime didn’t believe that it would happen, Lily did. She had to. She had to imagine there was a chance they’d find a place they could live happily, unmolested by the train. A place where Jaime wouldn’t have to worry about Ray being snatched away by something unnatural. A place where she and Nick could continue to explore what they’d started, unmolested by the train and its tricks. She had to believe the past eleven months had meant something. Eleven months. Another four weeks and change would mark a full year on the train. It was mind blowing when she thought about it. A year of her life, spent on a kidnapping train. Lily reached for the glass of wine she’d brought out with her. She wasn’t usually a drinker, but she thought this might help settled her nerves. Mostly, it was just tasting bad and sitting in her glass. Still, she took a little sip of it, grimaced, and set the glass back down again before she shifted in her seat, gazing around the room, her book unread in her lap. |
