It’d been just over two days since the train had decided to let its passengers back onboard and Jem was finally starting to feel more like himself again. The 48 hours spent fighting withdrawal and the cold during the lockout had not been kind to him by any means. Will had taken care of him throughout however and once they finally made it back to their cabin and the much needed yin fen had been administered, Jem had spent most of the weekend asleep, his parabatai stationed at his bedside once more. By the time Sunday rolled around, Jem was awake but still feverish and essentially bedridden as he recovered his strength, Church curled up with him in the bed, purring softly at his feet. It was certainly an improvement however and Will had just gone out to get himself some food and stretch his legs for a while when Jem realized that Tessa had sent him a message. He was glad to hear from her after such a trying few days, but he was not pleased (or terribly surprised) to learn that Will had managed to offend her during that time. He wasn’t entirely sure what all had transpired between Will and Tessa since their memories had mysteriously returned, but it was obvious that something had occurred. Matters were further complicated by the fact that Jem was still trying to process the effects of Will’s curse, of which he had been informed of just a few days before the lockout. While it had not changed the nature of their relationship it had changed the manner in which Jem viewed Will’s daily interactions. He wasn’t entirely sure what was worse. Watching Will push the people around him away without understanding the nature of his self destructive tendencies or watching it happen and knowing that it was in some way necessary. Either way it left him feeling helpless and he loathed it. At any rate, Tessa had offered to come over and keep him company while he rested and Jem had eagerly accepted. The two of them had scarcely gotten a chance to talk thanks to the train’s antics and the consequences of such and the pair of them had a lot to catch up on. Especially now that Jem could actually recall their friendship. He was just switching off the tablet device when he heard a soft knock on his door. “Come in,” he called out, his voice still sounding a bit hoarse from coughing. He didn’t let it bother him though, a genuine smile crossing his pale features when Tessa appeared in the doorway. “Don't worry, I think we have a bit of time before we need to unlock the window,” he teased softly, referring to their prior network discussion as she entered the room. |
