She'd heard around that Dementors had played a large part in the second wizarding war. She was familiar with them, of course, but only as the guards in Azkaban. She had personally never encountered a Dementor, though she was perfectly aware of how to defend against one. Patronus charms were usually the primary defense, but there were other ways as well. Other methods for those who couldn't summon their happy thought to create their patronus. Alice had, upon request, instructed Jaime in that particular art, and she didn't think the younger witch would have trouble picking it up. Jaime had expressed worry that she wouldn't be able to draw up her patronus if her fiance was in danger, and Alice could relate to that easily enough. It had made her miss Frank though. Not that there was a moment that went by that she didn't miss him, but some things brought it closer to the surface. While she wouldn't want him to be stuck here (especially if they actually were going to get Dementors), she did want to be with him. Granted, knowing what she knew about her future, she was less than interested in going home. Granted, if the rumors of a rescue were true (and she had her doubts), she realized she'd be facing a very, very difficult choice. To go back to a future she'd clearly already lived, to be tortured into insanity, or stay in this ... place they were supposedly rescuing them to. She wondered, if she didn't go back, what would happen? Would the world change, somehow? Would she be actually removed from the world because she was only there if she opted to go back? She didn't know. But she didn't want to go back to a place where she'd be tortured into insanity, to be confined to a ward of the hospital. With or without Frank, she thought she might choose to stay behind. If there was a rescue, and if that was an option. Both of which she thought were rather large ifs. Withdrawing her wand, Alice settled into a seat. Almost absently, she wordlessly cast a patronus, and she watched as the badger patrolled the edges of the car. She could dismiss it at any time, but there was something ... nice about it prowling around while she watched the snow fall through the panes of glass. |
