He'd seen Jaime's prediction on the network. He'd heard it from her first-hand that morning. He hoped like hell she was wrong. He had absolutely no desire to be trapped outside in this. He didn't even want to voluntarily go out into it, though he had a feeling that Kaylee was going to cite the presence of their jackets as a reason to venture out into the snow. And for her, he would. He would stay for as short a time as she'd allow, because he didn't like the cold. He also wondered how many cases of frostbite they were going to see -- though he guessed if people were reasonable and wore their coats and boots, it shouldn't be bad. It was the lack of scarves and mittens that disturbed him. If they had coats, and boots, why not the rest of the winter gear? Snowshoes, long johns, thicker socks? As it was, he was keeping his coat tied to him at night, just in case. Maybe he'd go so far as keeping a window open and sleeping in it, though he guessed he'd see what Kaylee had to say on that front before he tried it. As it was, he just wanted to be moving again. There was probably something ironic in that -- as far as he could tell, this was a decent stop, and with the exception of the noises at the very first stop, nothing had ever happened on board while the train was stopped. It was always while it was in motion. It wasn't as though there was some destination to race off to, either, or a promise of a better stop. Which made him wonder where this fell on the scale of stops. It was better than Tortuga in regard to the population -- but it was about level with it as far as supplies went. Better than zombies or superflu, but not as good as New York or China. But ... it was kind of nice to watch the waning moon reflecting on the snowscape when it broke through the clouds, and the snow as it fell in light flurries. |
