Sky
Characters: Lily Luna, Don
When: Friday night
Location: their room
Warnings/Rating: Lily and Don. Nothing to see here. Slide on by.
Summary: Lily scenery-gazes
Status: Closed, ongoing

By all reports, she was glad she hadn’t tried to stay behind. Not that she would have, but she was glad all the same. She was also selfishly glad her gran was still around, and that Don and Anna had both made it safely back on board. Despite her earlier misgivings, she rather liked Anna. And sometimes, it was kind of fun to pick on Don when she had backup. Nothing serious, of course -- light teasing, and never for long. She didn’t want to wear out his patience.

As they’d never moved the couch back, it was in an ideal place to continue her viewing of the scenery. She thought people afraid of heights, or planes, might not like this, but as she’d taken to a broom like a duck to water, being in the sky didn’t bother her in the least. Besides, it was better to watch this than the cave -- she could see for miles. For a little while, something humming-bird small had been racing alongside her window before it had veered off.

Then, she’d distantly spotted what she’d first thought was a flock of birds, though when they’d swept closer, she’d realized they were gryphons, more likely than not. It was fascinating.

Stretched out on the couch, one hand moving idly over her belly under her shirt, Lily gazed out the window. She wasn’t sure where Don was, or what he was up to -- now, talking to Anna was added to the list of ‘smoking, drinking, or reading somewhere else’ -- but she wasn’t worried. He’d be back before bedtime, and a contented smile crossed her lips at the thought of that.

Don actually had briefly entertained the idea of staying in China. But since Lily had never brought it up, he wasn't sure she would have wanted to. Completely starting over again, while somewhat appealing, was also daunting. Now Anna was here as well and for the most part, he didn't mind the train so staying on board wasn't exactly a difficult decision.

He'd stopped by to chat (or have a drink) with Anna for a bit before returning to his room to find Lily on her window gazing couch. He wasn't so sure about the scenery. It was one thing to fly in an airplane, but trains really weren't meant to fly and it made him just a touch uneasy.

"How's the view?" He asked by way of greeting as he took off his shoes, leaving them by the door, before making his way over to the couch, leaning against the back of it to gaze down at her.

"Colorful," she replied as she stilled her hand just above her navel. "I saw some gryphons earlier," she reported. She liked it better than underwater, despite the fact that both scenarios carried their own sets of danger. Potential danger, anyway. But it had survived being underwater twice, so surely it could manage to keep them in the sky for the duration of this reality.

She wasn't really keen on thinking too hard about how it managed to do that. She didn't think much about how brooms flew either, for similar reasons.

"How was ..." she gestured absently with the hand that wasn't under her shirt. "Out in the world of the train?" Tilting her head slightly, Lily smiled up at him before she reached up her free hand to brush her fingertips against whatever part of him she could reach. Letting her hand fall back down, she let her eyes drift back to the window again.

He did notice where her hand was and he smiled a little before he was distracted by her talk of gryphons. "I'm sorry I missed that," he admitted, but maybe more would fly by when he was watching. He glanced towards the window and it was nice, if he didn't think too much about it.

"Not very exciting," Don replied with a slight shrug, brushing his hand lightly against hers before she withdrew it.

Reaching into his pocket, he withdrew a rectangular shaped jewelry box. He offered it to her, a little smile touching his lips. "I found this in China. It made me think of you," he murmured as he gazed down at her. Inside was a gold necklace with a water lily leaf charm and a pearl where the flower would have been.

"I'm sure we'll see something else. There've been loads of things outside the window," she pointed out. "Birds and gryphons and ... more interesting things than there ever were in the cave." She thought she'd like to come to the couch when it was dark and see if the stars were rainbow-colored as well.

Lily regarded the box curiously. "I didn't get you anything," she said, her brow furrowing a little. Honestly, if she'd thought for a moment he would have gotten something for her, she would have gotten him something. She'd seen plenty of interesting things he might have liked while she'd been prowling the city with Tris and Marvel.

Still, he probably could have gotten her a pair of socks and she would have been thrilled that he'd been thinking about her while he was out without her. Sitting up, she took the box from him to open it. Gazing at the necklace, she smiled softly. "Thank you," she said as she glanced up at him. "It's pretty," she added before she withdrew it from the box, offering the necklace to him. "Put it on me?" She requested softly.

"Well, who knows what could have been in the cave that we couldn't see," Don countered teasingly, but he knew what she meant and he was curious to see whatever happened to fly by the window this time around. He would just pretend they were on an airplane.

He shook his head lightly; he hadn't expected her to get him anything. Anyway, he was still old fashioned enough that he thought of romantic gestures like this to be mostly up to men. He wouldn't have minded if she'd gotten him something, but he definitely didn't think any less of her because she hadn't.

"You're welcome," he murmured with a smile, taking the necklace from her. He moved to stand directly behind her, brushing her hair out of the way before reaching around her to fasten the necklace in place. With that done, he pressed his lips to her throat before drawing away.

He moved around to the front of the couch and gazed down at her. "It looks nice," he commented before he took a seat next to her, opening his arm in invitation.

“Nothing we would have wanted to see,” she countered. “Not if the bugs and bats were any indication.” Though she guessed the bats hadn’t been so bad, but … the bugs she could have done without. Especially on her window.

Lily smiled a little as he put the necklace on her, her eyes closing when she felt the press of his lips to her throat. A soft sigh crossed her lips, and she tilted her head to watch him as he moved around the couch. When he commented on it, she glanced down at it, liking the way it rested just above her cleavage. "It does," she agreed.

Easing into his arms when he sat down, she nestled her body up against his, resting her head on his shoulder as she let one hand fall to rest on his chest. It would be so easy, she thought, right now, to tell him she loved him, but ... why ruin a perfectly nice moment? "So you're going to star gaze with me?" She asked as she ran her fingertips lightly down his chest. "We might see whatever flies at night. Owls or dragons or something."

That was a fair point and he nodded slightly with an amused half smile. Some of the bugs had been ... interesting, but he couldn't say he was disappointed that they were out of that tunnel. Although, he did like being on the ground. He supposed it was best to just find the silver lining in each reality and cling to that.

Wrapping his arm around her when she settled against him, he let his hand play gently against her shoulder and upper arm, occasionally moving into her hair.

"I am," he agreed, tilting his head to press a kiss to her hair before returning his gaze to the window. "Do dragons come out at night?" Maybe they were nocturnal, he sure didn't know. Even if they were in her world, they might not be here. Still, he wouldn't mind seeing a dragon, as absurd as that thought was to him.

"I dunno. Some species are probably nocturnal." Which she guessed didn't mean they'd necessarily encounter the train, but ... they'd be out there. "Guess we can see. Or make bets on what we think we're going to see first," she teased a little.

This was nice though. More than nice. Just ... relaxing with him. Being with him. Sharing the sights of the reality with him. Snuggling against him, she tilted her chin to press her lips to his jaw before kissing the corner of his mouth lightly. It wasn't with the intent to start something -- they could do that, later -- but because she wanted to, and he was here.

Exhaling softly, Lily let her eyes half-close as she simply held him and was held by him.
