Who: Jace Wayland and Clary Fray When: Tuesday Afternoon Where: Various points in Shanghai and a restaurant called Jade Garden What: Clary Fray, this is your Shanghai date. Ratings: PG-ish! Status: Incomplete; In-Progress
Shanghai was quite the city. Large and practically glowing even in the middle of the night, it was much like New York, but even Jace Wayland felt it necessary to carry at least one Seraph Blade with him. After procuring a plastic card from Kaylee and Claudia, he had helped himself to a few bank machines. Unsure of how much would be needed, Jace took his time collecting a decent amount of Ren over a handful of days for a casual, but enjoyable afternoon with one Clary Fray. Since arriving on the train, he hadn't had a lot of alone time with his girlfriend much to his surprise. Jace had found he had seen her more when they were fighting Valentine then when they had all the free time on their hands.
Jace didn't give Clary too much of a warning. He rarely ever did when it came to things like this. Sure, he could weave romantic words, but romantic gestures were something altogether different. Jace was better at it than his adopted siblings, thankfully, but he was not a candlelit dinner sort of guy. He was more of the ordering take-out and eating by the neon lights of Broadway while perched on the rooftop. This would be different, though. That was obvious when he showed up at her room dressed in clothing other than a black tee shirt and leather pants. Casual jeans, a heathered maroon v-neck tee shirt, and a black jacket. Why, Jace Wayland had actually dressed up for this and possibly stolen a few items from individuals in the laundry car. It didn't matter. No one was really ever missing particular pieces of clothing it seemed. Getting Clary to go with him off the train took little work other than waiting those few minutes for her to look decent. He had assured her numerous times that she always looked decent, more than decent, but apparently it was a girl thing.
Upon leaving the train, Jace had planned an entire day of doing whatever Clary had wanted: shopping, foreign films, and museums. He had ever endured a few showings of that anime that she and Simon seemed to enjoy. Jace simply didn't get it. It was just too bright and too loud even for him. The action kung fu movies he could stomach, but even they got a bit dull after a while. When you spent most of your life executing fighting stances and moves to protect yourself and others, watching such events in movies just seemed boring.
It was a bit later in the afternoon when he escorted her to a restaurant he had scoped out in his travels. The Jade Dragon seemed like a fairly nice place and one that seemed to hold a few charms of Chinatown back in New York. A bit more chrome and a bit more shine, but the smell would always be the same.
Seated comfortably in a booth beside Clary, Jace slid his arm around her shoulders. Leaning in, he pressed a kiss against the corner of her mouth. Grinning as he pulled away, he stayed closed, chuckling against her ear. "So, who exactly is going to order off this menu?" Tapping a finger against the open pages, most if it was in Chinese with very few English words. "I hope your years of watching that anime stuff will work." His fingers idly played against strands of her hair before coming to rest against her shoulder, drawing small circles against the material of her shirt.
